Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026 released for consultation
The Ministry of Law and Justice announced a stakeholder-consultation draft concerning the legal profession.
What was announced
The Ministry of Law and Justice stated that a Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026, prepared in consultation with the Bar Council of India, was placed for stakeholder consultation.
Consultation status
The public notice invited comments up to 31 July 2026. That consultation window has now closed. A consultation draft is not enacted law and should not be described or relied upon as though it were in force.
What to watch
